John
Egan was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island. Before entering the world of filmmaking he lived and worked
in Greece, Italy and Germany. He
earned a B.A. in Classical Greek and Latin at the University of California at
Santa Cruz and an M.A. in Classical Philology at the University of Chicago
where he excelled in the
traditional pursuits of academics such as writing, lecturing, preparing and
evaluating adult learners. He has
also worked as an Italian interpreter, archaeological researcher and tour guide
of Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture. Comparative study of Greek Tragedy and modern film incited a
passion in him for late cinema noir and when world-renowned director Steven
Spielberg turned to him for expert advice, Egan made the decision to direct his full attention to his
growing passion for filmmaking. Since then he has worked directly with many other highly
talented filmmakers including Oliver Stone (Any Given
Sunday), Martin Scorsese (Bringing
Out the Dead and Gangs of New York), and, most recently, Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic
with Steve Zissou and Moonrise
Kingdom). His career now spans 15 years and Egan has developed
both a keen understanding of the unique exigencies of film production as well
as the expertise needed to produce films effectively. With a situational management
style, a background in project management, and the ability to think both
creatively and practically, John assumes overall management of all aspects of
the film. He is regularly
responsible for one-million to one-hundred-million dollar projects and,
although based in New York, Egan has lived and worked in Athens, Munich and
Rome (where he has also been an Italian interpreter). In 2006 he entered the Directors
Guild of America and, in addition to producing films, he continues to A.D. on movies,
commercials and television programs.
